What a micro-course looks like
- One idea per lesson – a few cards to tap through, with one point to remember.
- A couple of minutes – short enough for a coffee break, and designed for the phone first.
- A quick question – learners answer, and see straight away whether they were right and why.
- Short video where it helps – a clip of a minute or so, with captions for watching with the sound off.
Building a daily habit
The format works when people come back. On your learning platform we can set up what keeps them coming:
- One new lesson a day – released automatically, so nobody faces a long list.
- A daily reminder – by email or on their phone, with a link straight to today’s lesson.
- Streaks and progress – a learner sees how many days they have kept going. It is their own, not a table for the whole company, and one missed day doesn’t wipe it out.
- Review questions – points from earlier lessons come back a few days later, when they are about to be forgotten.
- A badge or certificate – to mark the end of the series.
Where it works, and where it doesn’t
Microlearning suits things people need to remember and use:
- Onboarding, a little each day in the first few weeks
- Yearly refreshers, such as data protection or fire safety
- Product knowledge and updates
- Follow-up after a workshop, so the training doesn’t fade
It is not a replacement for everything. Complex skills, formal assessment and CPD hours usually need a full course – though a short daily series is a good way to prepare for one or follow it up.
Quick to create
You probably have the material already. We can turn a course, a policy, a slide deck or a recorded talk into a series of short lessons, usually within days for a straightforward topic. Because each lesson is small, it is also quick to change when the content does.
Share it with a link or a QR code
Not everyone needs a platform. With Learn Skills LRS a micro-course is a link you can email, or turn into a QR code for a poster in the break room. Learners don’t need an account: they enter their name and email the first time and pick up where they left off. Daily release, reminders and streaks run on your learning platform; the link is the simple option for a short series.
See what is working
Every lesson is tracked as SCORM or xAPI, so you can see who finished, which questions tripped people up and where they stopped.
